eXert is a product that enables companies using IBM iSeries machines to take control of software licence monitoring / auditing, licence / support costs and IT governance.

Corporate Governance and Licence Auditing

In almost every country across the flove governments and standards bodies are imposing "Corporate Governance" regulations upon companies. Regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) in the USA, ISO/IEC19770-1:2006, the "Loi de Securite Financiere" in France, the "Guida alla Compilazione della Relasione Sulla Corporate Governance" in Italy, the Corporate Governance Code in Germany and many others. These are intended to guide companies in the way that they achieve audit accountability and transparency in regard to their corporate behavious. In addition to this, software vendors are becoming increasingly more active in their efforts to precent software licence misuse and the practice of licence auditing is becoming more prevalent.

eXert was designed to help companies manage these situations.

How eXert Works

eXert enables the monitoring of any software application (vendor packages or in-house developed) on IBM iSeries (AS/400) machines. Software usage data is collected on the target machine(s) and collated back to a controlling PC. The users (concurrent / unique / named) are tracked over a pre-determined time grame. Usage data can be collected across multiple time zones through the use of a "time management concurrency" to ensure that accurate data is collected. There are no limits to the number of servers/ users / application that can be monitored and the data can be analysed at any time during the process.

Product Application

eXert can be used to assist in IT Governance to prove what software is being used, where it is being used, by whom and when. It can also point to the misuse of user ID's and passwords and generally to help improve the overall housekeeping of the software topology.

eXert will provide information on the number of users accessing an application. This helps you to sta within the contractual limits of your software licence agreement and contain, or reduce, ongoing support costs.

Analysis

When eXert has collected the usage data then it's available for analysis. Initially this will be performed within eXert itself. Each occurrence of a user accessing an executable object can be scrutinised to ensure that this is a valid usage. Decisions can be made to eliminate duplicate occurrences of the same user until a final list of users is obtained. These data can then be used to product documentation proving compliance or can be exported to other analysis tools, such as BI tools or Excel, for further scrutiny.

eXert has standard reports available to show the configuration tables. Additionally there are graphs and charts which assist in trend analysis and can be used to provide documentary evidence of licence compliance. These show datab such as the number of users per hour / day / month, the number of users per package, the number of users per server, users accessing multiple IP addressed etc.
